Mandalay Hotels

Mandalay – Hotels

Our trip to Burma included 4 days in Mandalay, and 6 days in Bagan. We booked through cheapflights.com for ease of booking everything all in one, and these are the two hotels we stayed at.

Our Mandalay Hotel – The Bagan King
Hotels in Mandalay are plentiful. We chose The Bagan King because of it’s central location, with plenty of ammenities in the couple of surrounding blocks, and it looked wonderful.
The Bagan King hotel lived up to our expectations in every way….food, rooms, service, and locality.

Directly across from the hotel is the taxi rank with cars available for short hire, daily or a few days. Our driver spoke good English, suggested where we would like to go, and provided everything for us. We hired him for the full 4 days.

Right next to the hotel is a small local 24/7 convenience store stocked with the usual range you can get anywhere. Food drink chocolate toiletries etc. The local name is ABC Shop.

Down the road, half a block along the Main Street is a KBZ ATM machine. It’s near a bank and works well. We tested it several times.

Across from the ATM is a mobile and phone shop. We bought our Burma SIM card there. They were very helpful with lots of phone accessories if you forget something. And they speak enough English to make it easy.

Plenty of local eating places and restaurants are in the area, we opted for a tourist class one about a block down the road called Ginki Mandalay. With great service, music, atmosphere, and cheap prices, the extra bonus is it’s open long hours. TripAdvisor always has plenty of reviews for local places to eat.

There are a couple of pharmacies in the 2 block range, speaking enough English to get your point across and lovely happy smiles to go with it. They sell most things, we needed panadol and antacid and easily bought the Myanmar equivalent.
Panadol = Para-Denk 500. Antacid = Enzyplex.

One of the main Mandalay hospitals, The Palace Nan Taw Hospital is 2 blocks away … it’s very easy to communicate with the staff there, English is plentiful and no appointment is needed, you just have to wait in line.
We needed a doctor for an ear problem and went to the hospital. We walked there at 8pm and expecting to be there for long hours before we were seen, and were surprised to have the whole process finished within the hour. We were given a little booklet with our consultation notes in it, and what medications we received from the pharmacy at the hospital. All up cost about $45 USD

The main shopping mall in Mandalay is about 3-4 blocks away, with the usual Main Street shops.

The Bagan King Hotel is only a few blocks away from the original Mandalay Palace, home of the last King Of Burma, and several pagodas, temples, as well as monasteries are all located nearby, but don’t walk… hire a taxi for the day, see more, and its cooler.
